My husband and I dream of having a paperless home office. Someday, we’ll buy ourselves a Fujitsu Scansnap, whisk away our piles of mail, bills, and insurance documents into an external hard drive, and shred the whole mess. I can’t begin to tell you how passionately I’m looking forward to that day.
In the meantime, like so many other households, we’ve had to make do with our manila filing folders. This is no easy task, considering the volume of paper that passes through our house. We’ve got bills, statements, paycheck stubs, invitations, letters, church bulletins, licensing documents… the list goes on.
So being the Google geek that I am, I’ve been combing the Internet for ideas on refining our filing systems. After a couple weeks of research, I want to share my two favorite solutions…
1, an excellent article by OrganizedHome.com. This is the free DIY option – may not be terribly pretty, but I like how logical their system is, and I think I’d be able to keep up with it pretty well.
2, the FreedomFiler - you buy your own file folders, pay $43.00 for their pre-printed labels, and follow the instructions included in the package. Although $43.00 seems really steep for a bunch of labels, what we’re really paying for is the brilliance and simplicity of their system. This system has gotten rave reviews from users all over the Internet, so if you hate filing as much as I do, this might be worth the extra dough.
